When searching the internet on home based business opportunities, you will soon discover there is literally thousands to choose from. I recently stumbled upon an opportunity that I found quite interesting; A home owned bakery business. I decided to write an article about it because there are quite a number of things that one needs to take into consideration before starting up. Begin by asking yourself a number of questions:
Where am I going to bake? At home? Or will I begin a bakery shop?
What am I going to bake? Just bread, or cakes and pastries as well?
How am I going to market my products? Will I need an internet website?
If you want to be successful in running your own bakery business it is important you have all the right equipment and ingredients.
Some of the bakery equipment includes ovens, trays and dishes, etc... . Let´s not forget all the right ingredients such as flour, eggs, butter, salt, sugar, a range of decorations for cakes and pastries, flavourings, cream, milk and chocolate, just to name a few.
Quality above all! Look for the right wholesaler and don't be afraid to ask for samples. It may sound silly, but the quality of supplies varies, depending on the wholesale dealer. Once you have chosen the best of all wholesalers, ensure to have written agreements about the regularity of supply and the quality of the products. If you fail to do this, you might find yourself having to sell 'no' to your customers.
When it comes to bakery equipment, there are a number of guidelines to follow. These are mainly to do with the hygiene of the work floor. It is vital to maintain cleanliness in all areas. There is nothing worse than awful smells and odours. Dishes and trays need thorough cleaning and so do ovens. Especially the ovens, because failing to do so might result in gas leakages or electricity short circuits. Let´s not forget either, dirt attracts unwanted creatures, such as rats, mice and cockroaches.
If you decide to run a bakery store it's a good idea to decorate the store with nice items and samples of your product range. Make sure to change the look of your store from time to time, to keep it 'fresh'. Everything you put on display needs to be pleasing to the eye. So use nice, clean trays and dishes and ensure to have appealing bakery racks. For the delivery of products a nice vehicle is recommended displaying the logo of your business. After all, you do want to give your customers a positive impression at all times.
You also need to consider to put up a website where you can brand your business and market your products. Perhaps you could even consider selling your products online. This could however be a little tricky due to freshness. But products like chocolate, biscuits, toasts etc... can easily be sold online. There is also the option of taking orders online, such as the baking of cakes for weddings, birthdays etc... .
When looking for a home based business it´s important to know what you want to get out of it. Running a bakery is hard work and never ending. It requires a lot of passion and love for the trade of baking. There are easier options to make money, whether that is from home, a store or an office.
